May the fourth be with me- 2 mins
This must be the cheesiest title for a blog post that I’ve ever created but it could be redeemed somewhat:
I’ll be participating in my fourth Ludum Dare challenge holding between the 15th and 18th of April.
What’s ‘Ludum Dare’?
I can’t describe it any better than the about page so:
Ludum Dare is an online community best known for “Ludum Dare”, the Accelerated Game Development Event of the same name (also called a “Game Jam”). During a Ludum Dare, developers from around the world spend a weekend creating games based on a theme suggested by the community. Ludum Dare events take place every April, August and December.
To me, the Ludum Dare is 48 hours of focussed, (almost always) caffeine-fuelled game development. Every Ludum Dare event I’ve participated in was exhilarating to say the least. I’m proud of the game ideas I spun up even though I never polished the games I made during the challenges (I will change that this time). If you’re interested in the games - I mean - experiments I made, you can peek at my Ludum Dare profile.
PS: You won’t be able to play any of the games because I took them down. I wasn’t impressed with my execution of the wonderful ideas I had. I’m truly sorry about that. I’m a different person now.
Why is this your fourth Ludum Dare?
The first Ludum Dare I participated in was the 28th edition and it was so exciting that I participated in the next two editions. Unfortunately, work took so much of my time that I eventually became ‘gamedev unfit’ and lost confidence. What I hadn’t realized at the time was that Ludum Dare had become a part of me (I really, really love video games and game development) and I needed it more than it needed me.
I’ll be coming out of a 16-month retirement (cue thunderous applause) - I mean - hiatus to get back into making games. I’ve regained some of the lost confidence and have learnt to manage my time better.
Why this blog post?
(Totally unrelated meme)
I need your help. I need some way to hold myself accountable. I feel like sharing this blog post would make me accountable to the people that read it.
I’ve made my commitment here I’m in!
Thank you for reading.
